You'll end up with brassy orange highlights. If you want your highlights to be blonde, the brown has to be bleached first, then dyed blonde.

if its one of those kits from like walmart. don't use it!! they don't work well. it'll lightin ur hair but the highlights turn out really crappy. they look nothing like what they show on the box. trust me I've tried them. i had to dye my hair back after using one.
