Blond highlights with brown hair??

I have dark brown hair and i'm east indian so my skin colour is fairly dark. I was thinking of getting light brown and blonde highlights. Do you think it will look ok?

as a professional I don't recommend blonde. Not unless you want to go more of a sandy tone. Unfortunately most stylist don't know how to use color properly and you will get stuck with bleached highlights which will fade to a brassy look even if they use a color toner after wards. I would recommend you seek a professional COLORIST and tell them you want this process done with color only. If your not too dark they can give you some nice highlights which will both be safe for your hair and also will match nicely to your skin tones so that you still look natural. I think you might also want to start with the browns, you have so many choices just with browns alone that you can 2 tone with some honey browns and chestnuts which would also look amazing! Good luck and research your colorist, find out what she/he uses before you jump into the chair. Ask to see a portfolio, those of us that are good can provide you with many pictures of other clients and the results. Good luck!

You know what would look better, if you want to color your hair? Get some low-lights (to make some parts darker) and then get some light / medium brown highlights (but don't go blonde). It'll look way better, and you still get the multi-colored look but it'll be more natural looking.

Make sure the brown and blonde highlights compliment your dark brown hair, for example, don't go for a bleached blonde color, try a more natural honey blonde color. That way it compliments your natural hair color to make you look all the more naturally beautiful.

My clients that have dark skin tones I suggest a caramel highlight, and reds look great with dark skin tones. People that have really dark hair such as yours it is very hard to get it to a light blonde...most of the times it is very brassy.

Blonde on dark brown sometimes looks metallic like grey hairs might.

I have seem a lot of grils who looked good like that. But I did mine not to long ago the same way and I guess she let my get to light and mine made me look like I was going gray.

I agree with the LowLights. I am French and middle eastern and I kept making the mistake of saying Highlights when I meant low lights and got some blonde streaks that looked fake. the bottom line with dark hair is that any time you lighten it, it pulls red. Red is the underlying pigment of dark brown. So to avoid pulling the color too red, you have to specifically ask the stylist to go with a golden undertone and even possibly an ash undertone. Ash is more flat but since dark pulls red, it won't end up flat, just less red. As an East Indian, your hair level is most likely a 4 (3 is darkest) you don't want to go lighter than a 6. To get your hair lighter than a 6, they will have to use bleach and that's where all the problems start. There's little control for the stylist, it damages and turns very brassy on dark hair.

No. The lightest color you would want would be a medium brown or cinnamony red color. You don't want to look disgustingly fake. Don't do it yourself. Go to a salon and they will help pick a color that will best suir your skin color. I can't have blonde highlights either...my skin is too fair. There is a thin line between the right color and the wrong color. I have red hair, so I could do strawberry blonde, but not blonde. And you have dark hair and dark skin, so a darker coloer would be best for you. Good luck~

So being of asian decent, the blonde will look great only if you have no red tones. Sometimes when you bleach your dark hair to blonde, you have lots of red tones and then tend to turn orange. If you find a great stylist... then he/she won't turn it orange... if it does, have them condition it with some green. They will know how to do it. Sometime you might want to do all this in phases... first start off with a lighter brown highlight with medium brown lowlights, after 3 months, move up a shade or two, then try blonde streaks, after a year or so, you will notice how the color looks against your skin. With dark features, you should always lighten up slowly! Good luck:)
